In a small Bible study at the 1975 Baptist World Alliance, the conversation turned practical:
“How can we help?”
Her answer was immediate:
“Come and teach us your skills, that we may do things for ourselves.”
It was not a request for charity, it was a call for empowerment. That single sentence reframed missions for an entire profession.
A clarion call to teach skills, build capacity, and restore dignity. Fifty years later, that model still defines us.
A simple question opened the door to a legacy that would carry Christ’s love through an entire profession for generations. What question might God be asking of you?
> Empowerment is the mission.
